Hollywood is always weird and interesting.
When I first stood on Hollywood and Highland I was quite surprised. This was not the Hollywood I saw on television and in movies. Not all that glitters is gold, indeed.
I think that there are more than just one Hollywood. There's the Hollywood movie industry and then there's what goes down every day over on Hollywood Boulevard and surrounding neighborhoods.
There's the Hollywood that lives in the imaginations of those who come from far away to gaze upon the sidewalk littered with stars (and take selfies.) Then there's the Hollywood the cynic recognizes as being just another dirty, stinking town. There's also the Hollywood of the down-and-out: the Hollywood of Street People.
And the Hollywood of commerce; the daily hustle to make some meager living from the never ending stream of tourists and fun seekers.
None of this is directly connected to the Hollywood industry, which is conducted behind locked gates, in office buildings, and expensive clubs.
If you want color, and the absurd, joy and pain Hollywood Boulevard has all of it. One needs only stick around for a while and pay attention.
